Thunder in the Mountains

College Football Roadtrip - Marshall University - Huntington, WV

Located in Huntington, West Virginia, the campus of Marshall University is in the perfect location to bring spectators from out of the woodwork. In a small town on the river that consists of nothing much (entertainment wise) than a classic parking-lot style family amusement park, the school and the city used the one "industrialized" section of the area very well, with lots of parking, and a decent sized, modern looking stadium (for the most part) smack in the middle of it to bring friends, family, and of course, die-hard fans from all around together.

During our trip there, it was a brisk 99 degrees (F). witnessing a local running steps in a self engineered black garbage bag top as well as a sweatshirt underneath, seemed more like a potential cry for help and a death sentence than "exercise". then again, maybe he just wanted to hit his weight goal for the year......today.

regardless, I did very much enjoy the beautiful area of West Virginia the school was located in, and they had a couple of interesting (cool) design choices around the stadium. Rather intentional or not, the south end of the stadium (pictured above) did show off the beginning of one of the famous West Virginia Mountain Ranges almost perfectly, as well as both scoreboards fashioned in a way to look like the teams logo; which consists of a Green "M" with a black line through it, depicting the word "Marshall", or in some cases "The Herd", or even "Thundering Herd", similarly, the scoreboards don the Green "M", then have a black scoreboard running through the middle of them, replacing where the team's name would be, making almost a Three Demensional version of the schools moniker atop the stadium.

Huntington, WV is definitely a place I will be back to, I hope for a football game soon, but probably first, a trip to Camden Park (as mentioned earlier) so both Scott and I can try to obtain all the roller coaster/ride credits possible in every state!
